Oscar night
So it’s Oscar nigth, haven’t seen Avatar yet, and probly wont’ see any of the other nominees(was Zombieland or All Saints Day nominated?). But I did watch a good movie last night, Cinderella Man. I am no boxer(yet) but I love boxing movies. They are just so awesome, it is one on one and the protagonist only has themself when they are in the ring. Part of why I love(used to love)boxing and why I love Wrestling and even enjoy the MMA. The last 2 boxing matches I truly enjoyed were the best ones I have seen and are in the top 5 of many critics lists, they are Gatti Ward I and II, 3 wasn’t near as good. But these were toe to toe bouts that were amazing and as good as any movie fight. Irish Mickey Ward and Arturo Thunder Gatti friggin bring it the whole bout both times, if you get the chance to watch them I say do it. So here are some great boxing movies, Gladiator(the boxing one) is ok, but just shy of making my list.
Rocky and Rocky Balboa, both these he is not the winner of the fight, but he is the winner in life, Both these films tug at the old heart strings
Rocky III He fights Thunderlips(Hulk Hogan), and Clubber Lang(Mr. T) and Clubber deserves to win the first one, he trained like a mad man and gave Rocky the drive to find the Eye of the Tiger gettin back to training old school where he wins, some good lines in this one.
Rocky IV again flash = demise, train like a mad man with hard work=victory for us and capitalism! USA USA!
Cinderella Man, Guy gets a second chance and uses it to become champ, hardly any of us get a second chance, if we do we need to capitalize. The Dude fought for Milk.
Million Dollar Baby, yeah it’s about chicks fighting so not really boxing, but it is sweet. Clint=Hardass McBadass, and gets somone who wants to be the best. Most times as a coach you don’t get people who truly want to be great, they may want to but not want to work hard enough, when you get someone who who busts their ass even if they don’t have the talent you love it.
Finally Vision Quest, Yeah I know, it’s a Wrestling movie, but same principles apply. Guy who has it all vs guy who is willing to work for it all, great soundtrack from Journey, Madonna at the start of her carreer, Forest Whittiker and Griff from Married With Children, and many more stars before they got big. And friggin Wrestling, it is awesome! I can’t hear Lunatic Fringe without getting pumped and ready to take on Chute!
