I Am Proud

OK, so this weekend was uor regional wrestling tourny.  It involved a lot of stress from both the prep and sympathy stress for my old man.  A lot of work goes into putting together a tournament and no one is ever greatful(Pricks!)  But amid all the stress and pain and bad stuff I had a very proud moment.  We have a kid who wrestled with us his freshman year and then decided to come back out his Sr. year.  I have had fun working with him but it can be difficult because he has some deficits with his learning and people skills (he does not make eye contact and getting him to talk can be difficult).  So I have worked with him a little one on one and got to work with him quite a bit last week.  My Dad and I came up with a plan of getting him going with a few moves and getting them ingrained in his head.  The kid is strong as a horse and wrestles a very unorthodox style, you put him on his back and he has you right where he wants you because he will roll you through and pin your butt.  He went into the tourny with something like a 5 and 15 record.  On Fri night he won both of his matches(by pin) and got himself into the semis.  His smile was big and coach and I were super pumped because this meant he would be an automatic place winner.  On Sat he lost his semi-finals match but won his consolation semis match to get him in to wrestle for 3rd place.  We were so excited for him because it meant he had a great chance to qualify for state.  In his 3rd place match the whole gym was cheering for him, even schools that don’t like us much were cheering for him.  he had his fourth come from behind to pin victory of the tournament.  I jumped up in the air the crowd went nuts, and next thing I know I have my Dad up in the air.  Our kid came back and had a smile that would melt anyones coldest heart.  It blew me away, I was so proud of this kid and so happy that he was getting a chance to compete in the State Wrestling Tournament.  A feet that only 64 kids get each year.  His family was there(I don’t think that any of them had seen the Kid wrestle till this weekend, and they got to see him at his best.  Who knows what will come this week, we have 6 going downtown, and I am excited for them all.  I would love to get to see that smile even bigger!!!
